Searching for Christmas Stars in Newport….Winner Revealed!

The winning choir was chosen by public vote by readers of the South Wales Argus, of the initial entrants three choirs had been put through to public vote having been successful at the audition stage.

The winning choir will now not only be turning on Newport’s Christmas Lights* at 5pm this Sunday in Newport City Centre; with the Mayor of Newport; but will also be performing on the live stage prior to the switch-on. Their stage performance; based at the top of High Street will be at 4.20pm so make sure you head on down to the City Centre in plenty of time so you can see just how good they are!

The choir fought off tough competition with a total of more than 1500 votes being cast with Malpas scoring 586, Coleg Gwent receiving 529 and St. Josephs RC High School receiving 391.

Music co-ordinator from Malpas Church in Wales Junior School Louise Keyse said all of the children were really pleased and excited about Sunday.
