Newport city council sets about spring cleaning the city
Newport City Council is set to spring clean the city after today launching its new streetscene service – an innovative and fresh approach to maintaining and improving the city’s physical environment.
Services such as highways, street cleansing, waste and recycling, ground maintenance and countryside have joined together in one team to create a one-stop approach to the things that affect residents local neighbourhoods.
Sheila Davies, corporate director for regeneration and the environment, said: "Streetscene is an innovative approach from the council and will see a number of council services come together to improve neighbourhoods for residents. It will be easier for residents to report issues and they will be dealt with more efficiently.
"We will be working closely with residents to create pride in communities and local people will be able to have the opportunity to help shape services for their area.”
Teams will be multi-skilled meaning they can deal with a wide range of issues in a more coordinated, quicker and efficient way. There will be two dedicated rapid response teams operating across the city to deal with immediate issues effecting residents and the travelling public.
The council anticipates that residents will also take more responsibility for their local area and make the council aware of any concerns or problems as soon as possible by getting in touch via the streetscene web pages or through the city contact centre. Streetscene will also communicate key issues more frequently using social media routes such as Twitter.
Larger projects will continue to be planned and delivered on a city-wide basis such as large engineering projects, car park management, traffic management and recycling services.
Residents can report any issues to the contact centre on 01633 656656.
