A blend of niche shopping combined with plenty of opportunities to eat and drink makes High St and the adjoining arcades one of the more quirky, yet traditional areas for shopping in the city. The recently refurbished indoor market is the visual flagship to the area. It combines the best range of fresh fruit, veg, cheeses, meats and fish that would have Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay simply salivating. In addition to the fresh produce, the market also boasts a range of domestic goods, a top class exhibition, events area and a wealth of creative shopping outlets.

Independent shops dominate Market Arcade, Newport Arcade, Skinner Street and Griffin Street. From funky surf and skate shops on Skinner Street to hand crafted jewellry in Newport Arcade, the area has a distinctive and original feel.
