Come along to one of the below courses to explore the history of Newport…
19th Century Newport: Exploring the history of Newport in the 1800’s this course will cover such topics as life in the workhouse, everyday life in the slums, entertainment and theatres, crime and punishments, smuggling in the port, early hospital care and more! 12 weekly sessions on Saturdays 9.30-12.00 pm starting 25th April 09
The War Years 1939-45: Follow Newport's wartime journey, from the preparations for war - blackouts, air raid warnings, Anderson shelters, food rationing - to death and destruction - enemy plane crashes and bombings! Discover what life was like on the Home Front and the local heroes who gave their all to protect our town. 6 weekly sessions on Thursdays 6.30-9.00 pm starting 4th June 09
Classes are based at Charles Street Community Learning Centre but walking tours of the town will take place throughout the courses.
