Focusing around an impressive double sided outdoor screen (the only one of its kind in the world!) which will show the golf as the action takes place, the zone will also include a set of interactive activities including crazy golf, a golf simulator and young families arts area, light zone workshops as well as a mini food zone.

Alongside the core activities, a series of promotions and targeted entertainment is also being planned starting from early Friday morning with an early breakfast give-away, children’s entertainers and several ‘on the hour’ competitions and promotions with a sports and outdoors emphasis.

These events build up on the Saturday with the live transmission of the Owen Money Saturday morning programme ‘Money For Nothing’ from the square as well as guest visitors Sportacus & Stephanie from the popular children’s programme ‘Lazy Town’ in the afternoon.
Sunday sees the climax of the golf and the big thank you afternoon to both the residents and visitors to Newport. We will then be saying adios, hwyl, goodbye and even adieu to our golfing guests!

Newport to the core, GLC, with the help of Newport-based mag Voice, are bring golf and a blinding bash to the good people of Newport in the form of a star-studded charity golf tournament at the city’s municipal course in Caerleon, which will to be followed by a show later on that night.

Confirmed names for the golf tournament so far include silver medal winning Olympian Jamie Baulch, Dirty Sanchez stars Pritchard and Dainton, BBC Radio DJ Bethan Elfyn, The Sun’s Gordon Smart, Owen Money, Torchwood star Gareth David Lloyd, Welsh Rugby star Craig Quinnell, Howard Marks and, of course, the Goldie Lookin Chain lads. Plenty of other celebs are in the pipeline and will be confirmed over the coming weeks.

The tournament will free to watch for spectators and the gig will take place at Newport Centre on the same evening.

“Golf can be a bit stuffy, so we’re going to do something golf-orientated that everyone in Newport can get involved in. We’re going to put the ‘olf’ back into golf and give something back to the people of Newport” GLC’s P-Xain.

“This is going to be the golf event to end all golf events. They’ll probably cancel the Ryder Cup after seeing this,” Emma Corten, organiser.

Safe? Too right!
