If you enjoy shopping, why not shop with a conscience and pick Fairtrade products wherever you can. Or indeed, if you a retailer or have an outlet of your own, have you considered stocking them?
Since the launch in late September 2006, Newport’s Fairtrade City bid has made excellent progress. Those already involved with Fairtrade have been contacting the bid Chair, Helen Forshaw, to register their activities. These have ranged from Fairtrade beverages served in The Clay Cup, Stow Hill, to employees who are actively raising awareness of Fairtrade within the Seren Group (Charter Housing, Care and Repair). Meanwhile Fairtrade is a way of life for employees of Newport’s Office of National Statistics, whilst there are plans for a Fairtrade coffee bar at the City College of Coleg Gwent.

Ways to help:
If you run a retail outlet/café, think about offering fairly traded products – remember only 2 different products will mean you are helping Newport meet its Fairtrade target. (Information on products are available from Helen Forshaw)
When you shop, ask for and buy fairly traded products in local shops and cafes.
