No Ordinary Letting for Modus’ Friars Walk Scheme

Modus has confirmed the signing of Marks & Spencer to anchor the Northern end of its spectacular Friar’s Walk development in Newport, South Wales. Top high street retailer M&S, who is taking 80,000 sq ft, join Debenhams (105,000 sq ft) and New Look who have recently signed to take a 30,000 sq ft store.

Friars Walk will provide Newport with the retail and leisure facilities that the city deserves and will complement the major city wide regeneration programme. The £200m development will provide 450,000 sq. ft. of new retail space, a multiplex cinema, a new restaurant quarter, a city hotel, 250 new style apartments, and a new bus station.

The development will bring new and exciting architecture to the city and will boast a vibrant mix of well known retailers alongside independent stores, which will cater for a wide range of tastes and needs. Nigel Poad, Leasing Director for Modus said: “We are very pleased to have secured Marks and Spencer in a store that will double their trading footage demonstrating the confidence they have in Newport. We have a number of other deals in solicitors hands with major fashion operators, which will strengthen the overall retail offer in the city”.

Construction is due to start on site in spring 2008 and the anticipated completion date is 2010. Lunson Mitchenall and Tushingham Moore are agents for the scheme.
