Local artist Andy O’Rourke of Malarky Arts and St Anne’s Hospice revealed a creative partnership when they unveiled some new panels around Newport’s Christmas tree.
The panels, which were created to fit in with the new Christmas decorations, were inspired by the council’s ‘Star Attraction’ Christmas initiative.

St Anne''s Hospice is the main sponsor of the city’s Christmas tree on High Street and the panels highlight the hospice’s annual ''Light up a Life'' campaign.
It is using the boards to encourage members of the public to attend one of the ‘Light up a Life'' services and to dedicate a light on the St Anne’s Christmas tree.
Terry Woodsford, fundraising business manager, stated: “Traditionally Christmas is a time when families and friends get together. The absence of loved ones for whatever reasons at this time is often painful.
“For people coping with bereavement it is a particularly difficult time. The hospice provides specialist palliative care to patients and support to their families throughout the year but this is more poignant during the Christmas period.”

Artist Andy O’Rourke took several weeks working to create a visual story board on a Christmas theme of the three Kings and was pleased with the way that the panels turned out.
He said: “A lot of my projects involve working with local community groups, especially in the run-up to key events such as Maindee festival.
“It’s always exciting when a project comes up that involves not just my skills as a co-ordinator but an artist as well.”
