Springboard Keeps Count on City

Newport has signed up to a national performance index which monitors footfall in town and city centres and its data has already provided a useful indicator in high street trends. The counter, which was located on Commercial Street in the city centre earlier this year was approved via Newport Initiative the city centre partnership and funded by the Planning & Economic Regeneration Service in Newport City Council.

The counter uses i-site software which monitors footfall 24hours a day, 7days a week and is run by UK operator Springboard which also collects data tallying over 100million flows a month in 50 locations throughout the UK.

Detailed information and reports are available for businesses to purchase via the city centre manager with packages tailored to suit budgets and business requirements starting from as little as £25. Anyone interested in finding out more, can email us here.

October Footfall 2007

October Footfall fell by 1.54% from September’s figures. However, compared to other towns and cities using Springboard, the city was actually up 7.39% on average for the month. (September and October are traditionally quieter months after summer holidays and prior to the Christmas trading period across the UK according to the research organisation statistic from previous years.)
