The Partnership
Newport Initiative is a fresh partnership aimed at transforming the City Centre Business Plan into reality. It is co-ordinated by the City Centre Manager who is appointed permanently by Newport City Council and based in Newport Provisions Market. Newport Initiative comprises of a Steering Group and three working groups representing various organisations from the City Centre. The Steering group meets on a quarterly basis to monitor and analyse progress and the working groups convene between once a month to once a quarter.
There are direct links between this plan and Newport Unlimited''s 2020 Vision and the Council’s Community Plan to ensure Newport increases its competitiveness as a regional city and increases its profile as the gateway to south and west Wales.
What are the benefits of the Initiative?
Sharing resources, ideas and commitment and taking a holistic approach to issues results in a community that benefits from a healthy, sustainable and secure environment. It increases the competitiveness of the City Centre, provides extra incentives on where to shop, what to visit etc. But most of all Newport Initiative allows greater input into your city.
In the UK there are over 360 competitive Town and City Centre Management organisations all working hard to secure the prosperity and vibrancy of their own area.
No stakeholders are charged a fee to be part of Newport Initiative. However, all partners need to demonstrate their commitment to promoting and developing the City Centre by signing up to the Terms of Reference.
